Liverpool Win the Champion’s League!

A fantastic summer for British football fans

For the first time in history, both the Champions League and the Europa league had all English finals!

In the Europa league, Arsenal played Chelsea. Arsenal played a good game, but lost 4 – 1. Chelsea lifted the trophy in Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan.

There were dramatic scenes in the Champions League semis, too. Liverpool sensationally knocked out Barcelona after returning from 3 – 0 down. The reds scored four goals and earned themselves a spot in the all-English final against Tottenham. For their place in the big game, Tottenham Hotspur knocked out Ajax in the 96th minute of the match!

The Champions League final was played in Madrid. Liverpool won 2 – 0 with the help of a shock penalty after just twenty-five seconds following a handball from Spurs’ Moussa Sissoko. The Reds’ victory was sealed by a goal from Divock Origi in the 89th minute. This is the 6th Champions league title taken by Liverpool, and celebrations lasted into the night.

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s captain, said: “I’ve had tough times but I’ve kept going – just as this club has. It’s the best moment of my life, this is what I dreamed of since I was a kid.

It’s not about me, it’s not about me being captain or lifting the trophy, it’s about this club, these players, this manager. Now we must keep going and kick on.”

Winning the Champion’s League was Henderson’s greatest ambition. What is your greatest ambition in life?
