Climate Change: Students in Europe miss school to protest

Students want action!

Look at the photo. What do you think happened?

It was a school day but about 34,000 students across Europe (13,000 in Brussels, Belgium) weren’t in school. They were on the streets!

Why? To protest about climate change. They want politicians to work together to save our planet.

Some students didn’t ask their teachers and ‘skipped’ school. But many teachers agreed with the students. “Our teacher is okay about it,” says Lucas, “but we have to take selfies to show that we were here and not at home gaming.”

One school director, says, “Our job is to help children become good citizens. These students are good citizens and they are sending an important message to world leaders.”

The students say they will protest every week. “This is important to our future! We want to show politicians that young people care and want real change!”

Do you agree with the students’ protests?

Do you skip school sometimes? Why? Why not?

This article is very interesting. I admire what they do. I totally agree with them. I love a sentence that says"we borrow our planet to future generations the time of our passage" I find this sentence beautiful. It is very important to do something to save our planet, but I think it will be very difficult. I never miss school to protest except when I'm sick. I don't know if I will do it.
